Katy, Texas, paid $14.5 million to the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese in 2014 to buy an 8.5-acre property that included a home built in the 1920s. A few months later, however, the nuns who had been living in the mansion for decades made a separate deal to sell it to a businesswoman named Dana Hollister for a somewhat greater price than what would have been paid to their order. This sparked a legal dispute that lasted for several years.
